U realize that’s only used to steady the CPU fan in right?
Lack of thermal paste leads to much more devestating issues than mere overheating. His laptop would’ve been long gone if it was really a lack of thermal paste

If you’re able to open up you’re laptop,I’d suggest cleaning the fans or maybe getting new ones If possible.Though I doubt you can replace an old fan with a new one on a laptop.
Using thermal paste helps too.
